Family Child Care Homes
Childcare and education are provided in a small group setting in an individual's home, providing a home-like atmosphere for a child and greater flexibility to match non-traditional schedules. California state licensing requires that Quality Family Child Care operators obtain Early Childhood Education (ECE) units and professional growth certificates.
Center-Based Programs
Childcare and education are provided in a child care center, Head Start program, parent cooperative, or preschool. These programs vary in the number of hours children are in care, the types of learning environments they offer, and the specific goals of the center. California State licensing requires teachers to have at least 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units to be employed.
